Let’s examine the question of “are church websites still relevant.” It should certainly come as no surprise to anyone that 2020 has been a year that has presented everyone with challenges and obstacles that many were nowhere close to being prepared for.
Furthermore, it caused a massive pool of confusion and feelings of being overwhelmed, since many leaders within the church had no idea where to start or how to manage what they already had.
You can have all of the interactions with as many social networking sites as your heart desires. However, at the very end of the day, all things should be point back to your church website as the very core and central hub for both your members as well as new visitors.
While new people may find you on social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and a host of others, at the very end of the day you can almost bet your life they are going to be looking to your website to truly begin examining whether or not they desire to pursue you any further.
It’s crucial that you learn how to make your church website work for you, not you working for it.
I would have to honestly say that the one thing that seems to overwhelm many is trying to manage everything they have. Let’s face it, most pastors in today’s world are a little out-of-date when it comes to truly having a grasp on the variety of social networking platforms and the internal workings of each of them.
As the younger generation knows, there are so many internal working parts to each network that it can be a bit overwhelming to truly get a grasp on each of them. This is particularly a concern once we found ourselves knee-deep in the whole COVID-19 issue.
Ideally you should only have to post your content to one location and then let the power of automation take control to ensure that it finds itself around to your other networks.
However, not only is it important that it find its way there, but it’s even more important that you or someone you trust be able to engage with those who respond on those various platforms. Trust me, there is nothing that I find more infuriating than to comment of something or encourage someone, only to have them not respond to you. When this occurs, people generally feel as though their thoughts or opinions don’t matter to you. It’s the quickest way to turn people away from your ministry in a hot New York second.
As a professional web developer and online content strategist, I can assure you that learning these things didn’t just happen overnight. It has taken me the better part of nearly 20 years of continual growth and experimenting to get a firm hold on this.
